(Miri, 21st) — Lian Lu Middle School students have once again achieved remarkable results in the field of language arts! Recently, they excelled in two competitions, clinching top placings and bringing glory to their school.
The 2025 Secondary School English Speech Competition was held on July 30 at Miri Pujut Secondary School, organized by the Miri Education Bureau and hosted by Miri Pujut Secondary School. Yu Jiajia, a Senior Two student from Lian Zheng Class at Lian Middle School, stood out from among 16 contestants with outstanding language skills and on-stage confidence, winning the championship.
At the same time, in the 2025 National Primary and Secondary Independent Poetry Recitation Competition Sarawak State Round, Lian Middle School students also shone brightly. The competition saw 11 participants from various Miri secondary schools, including SMK Dato Permaisuri, SMK Lutong, SMK Lian Lu, SMK Jalan Lian Lu, SMK Marudi, and others. Ultimately, Zhang Jiaying from Junior Three Gratitude Class won second place with her heartfelt recitation, while Ong Kang Heng from Junior Three Excellence Class took third place with his steady presence and clear expression.
Lian Middle School Principal, Ms. Jiang Peijuan, expressed immense pride in seeing students stand out on different stages. “This is not only a personal honor but also a result of the school’s quality education. Lian Middle School upholds the philosophy of 'holistic education and balanced development,' encouraging students to grow in academics, language, arts, and social service.”
She added that Yu Jiajia’s championship in the English Speech Competition, together with Zhang Jiaying and Ong Kang Heng’s outstanding performance in the Poetry Recitation Competition, fully demonstrate Lian Middle School students’ progress and maturity in critical thinking, language proficiency, and cultural literacy.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr. Liu Shicong also highly praised the students’ performances. He said: “Lian Middle School’s educational policy emphasizes 'rooted locally, with a global outlook.' We hope that, while acquiring knowledge, students will also enhance their communication and critical thinking abilities. These excellent results not only reflect students’ solid language foundation, but also showcase their courage and creativity on stage.”
