The US Intends to Invite Putin to Attend the G20 Summit

US government officials revealed on the 23rd that the US side intends to invite Russian President Putin to attend the Group of Twenty (G20) leaders’ summit scheduled to be held in Miami, USA, in December this year.

According to AFP, the United States is this year’s rotating presidency of the G20. A senior official of the Trump administration said on the 23rd: “All G20 member states will be invited to attend this year’s G20 ministerial meeting and leaders’ summit in Miami, Florida, in December.”
The civil group 'United Ukraine' planned an installation artwork at the National Mall in Washington, using teddy bears placed on a fence to form the words 'Putin kidnapped 20,000 children'. Each of the 20,000 teddy bears represents one of the 20,000 Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia since the full-scale invasion.

According to the Washington Post, the US State Department said in a statement that President Trump “has made it clear that Russia is welcome to attend all G20 meetings, and the United States is working to host a successful and productive summit.”

Since the escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Putin has been absent from G20 leaders’ summits, with Foreign Minister Lavrov attending on behalf of Russia.

This invitation will mark a significant easing of international pressure on Putin. Since 2022, he has been shunned by most Western countries, with the exception of Trump.
