Air Canada announced on the 19th that after reaching a mediation agreement with the Canadian public employees union, it will gradually resume flight operations starting that day.
On its official website, Air Canada stated that the mediation was conducted on the condition that the union immediately allows the airline’s 10,000 flight attendants to return to work. As aircraft and crew may not be fully in place for the time being, the company may need 7 to 10 days to fully restore normal services.
On the 16th, Air Canada announced that all flights were suspended after the strike of 10,000 flight attendants, represented by the Canadian public employees union, took effect in the early hours of that day, affecting about 130,000 passengers daily. The Canadian federal government requested the resumption of flight operations on the same day.
Previously, Air Canada conducted several months of negotiations with the Canadian public employees union, but no agreement was reached.
