(Miri, 24th) The new chairman of the United Association of Chinese Primary Aided School Boards of Management Miri & Limbang Divisions, Penghulu Desmond Yap Cheng Siang, stated that there was abundant rainfall during the New Year period this year, affecting some schools with floods. Therefore, the members' meeting of the board has approved an allocation of RM15,000 to assist the affected schools, alleviating the financial burden on the boards.
Initiating Disaster Relief Fund and Urging Affected Schools to Submit Information
Desmond Yap disclosed that they have received disaster situation reports from Sibu Besi County Enlightenment School, Jin Nan School, Silabukan Chinese School, and Long Wat Chinese School, and he urged other flood-affected schools to submit relevant information promptly, enabling the board to activate the disaster relief fund for assistance.
He made the above statement last night at the installation ceremony of the new committee and CNY 2025 dinner reception organized by the United Association of Chinese Primary Aided School Boards of Management Miri & Limbang Divisions at Boulevard Chinese Restaurants Miri.
Seeking Funding Support to Promote the Development of Chinese Education
Desmond Yap expressed gratitude to all sectors, especially representatives, for their long-standing support of Chinese education. He admitted that the management and development of Chinese schools are not easy, but the board will continue to strive to contribute to Chinese education.
He emphasized that organizing various educational and cultural activities requires a substantial amount of funding, hence hoping that representatives would continue to provide financial support as in the past. He revealed that the board would organize a series of local and overseas activities in the future to enhance the overall development of Chinese schools.
The Importance of Education: Cultural Inheritance Must Start from Schools
Desmond Yap pointed out that education is crucial to social development, but at the same time, it may become a factor in eradicating culture. Therefore, educational efforts must ensure that Chinese education not only imparts knowledge but also bears the responsibility of cultural transmission.
