Westlake Miri Badminton Open Attracts 1,000 Participants from 12 Countries

(Miri, 31st) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Lee Bin Raman, stated that the 2026 Westlake Miri Badminton Open Championship has attracted around 1,000 players from 12 countries, which not only demonstrates the popularity of the event, but also reflects the trust and recognition the players and related organizations from various countries have for the organizers.
Datuk Lee Bin Raman, who is also the president of the Miri Badminton Association (MBA) and the advisor for this year’s championship, made this remark last night during his speech at the appreciation dinner for the MBA and Sarawak Badminton Association referees held at the Palace Grand Hotel to coincide with the abovementioned championship.
This event is organized by the Senadin Badminton Club, co-organized by the Miri Badminton Association, and is title-sponsored by Westlake Tyres (Westlake Tyres Sdn Bhd).
He pointed out that the success of the tournament depends not only on the number of participants, but more importantly, on the overall experience provided in the coming days for players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and supporters.

He said that the smooth running of the event relies on the full cooperation of all parties, including referees, arbitrators, assessors, technical officers, team members, volunteers, and support staff. Every role is equally important.
"As long as everyone upholds mutual respect, responsibility, and a common goal, we can overcome all challenges and ensure the tournament is carried out successfully."
He especially thanked the assessors who traveled from afar to participate in the practical referee assessments, stating that these arrangements will help nurture more qualified referees, benefitting not only Miri but the entire Sarawak badminton community.
At the same time, he thanked all participating partners and supporters, emphasizing that badminton is not only a sport but also a platform to unite the community.
Lee Bin Raman stated that even though the upcoming tournament schedule is tight, the working hours long, and it will be full of challenges, as long as everyone maintains good communication and a spirit of cooperation, a successful and proud event can be achieved.
He also called on those present to take this opportunity, amidst their busy schedule, to interact, strengthen bonds, and enjoy their time in Miri, including experiencing local cuisine and sightseeing activities.
