(Kuala Belait, 28th) The Ministry of Defence of Brunei successfully conducted a cleanliness campaign at several venues in the Kuala Belait district yesterday. With the concept of emphasizing the spirit of mutual assistance and reciprocity, the campaign aimed to promote community unity.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence, Halbi, launched the campaign at the Jubilee Park in Kuala Belait. The event began with a group photo, followed by the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah from the Qur'an, and a speech entitled “Strengthening the Spirit of Mutual Help Through Cooperation.” The speech stressed that cooperation not only enhances the spirit of mutual assistance, but is also a virtuous act that contributes to community welfare and harmony.
Representatives from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism then gave multiple awareness talks on cleanliness and environmental responsibility, and held exhibitions related to waste management, public health, environmental protection, and sustainable development practices.
The event continued with a safety briefing and simple physical training before the official start of the cleaning activities.
The cleaning campaign brought together local residents, military personnel, government agencies, community leaders, private groups, educational institutions, youth groups, and volunteer organizations. Through comprehensive cleaning activities held in parks, residential areas, and community spaces, the campaign drew a thousand participants.
In the designated cleaning areas, a total of 3,470.8 kilograms of waste were collected, including general trash, recyclables, and bulk items. This outcome reflects the positive results achieved by the community-led environmental initiatives.
The cleanliness campaign not only improved the cleanliness and appearance of the Kuala Belait district, but also enhanced the collective sense of responsibility among the public to protect the environment.
Through such initiatives, the values of cooperation, shared responsibility, and respect for the environment continue to be reinforced within the community. This effort not only reflects the Ministry of Defence's ongoing commitment to environmental protection, but also shows its strong support for the initiatives of the Cleanliness Affairs Joint Committee. At the same time, it further strengthens public participation towards jointly building a clean, safe, and sustainable nation.
