Joint Law Enforcement Operation in Serian: 6 Suspects Apprehended for Drugs and Ketum Involvement

(Serian, 25th) The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Serian branch conducted a joint law enforcement operation yesterday at the Layang Road Transport Department (JPJ) vehicle inspection checkpoint, as well as the Serian–Sri Aman Road and Kuching–Serian Road areas, apprehending 6 individuals who tested positive for drugs and ketum (Ketum).

According to a spokesperson from the AADK Serian branch, among them was an Indonesian male who was also detained for allegedly violating the Immigration Act 1959/63.

He stated that the operation was carried out from 8am to 12pm yesterday, jointly organized by the Sarawak Immigration Department, Serian District Police Headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit, and the Road Transport Department.

"During the operation, the AADK Serian branch conducted urine screenings on 21 people, of which 18 tested negative, 2 tested positive for ketum, and 1 tested positive for methamphetamine." He stated this in a press release.

He said that all individuals who tested positive were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further action.

At the same time, the Serian District Police Headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit also checked 3 local men, all of whom tested positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine (AMP/METH).

"They were subsequently detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 to assist in the investigation."

Additionally, the Sarawak Immigration Department inspected a total of 109 people during the operation, including Malaysian, Indonesian, and Indian nationals.

The spokesperson pointed out that enforcement officers later detained an Indonesian male for allegedly violating Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

"The individual was found inside a lorry, and the authorities also issued a witness summons to the local driver to assist in the investigation."

On the other hand, the Road Transport Department inspected 187 vehicles during the operation and took enforcement action against 36 of them.

"A total of 41 notices were issued by the authorities, involving offenses such as driving without a license, expired road tax, lack of insurance, non-compliant number plates, illegal modification of exhaust pipes, and other technical violations."
