Sarawak Attracts Foreign Investment to Expand into New Medical Frontiers: US Company to Set Up Plant, Driving High-End Biotech Supply Chain

(Kuching, 4th) – Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian revealed that an American enterprise is planning to invest and set up a factory in Kuching to produce high-tech collagen products for wound treatment and tissue repair, with an estimated investment ranging from 20 million to 40 million US dollars.

He pointed out that this investment will not only enhance Sarawak’s development potential in the field of regenerative medicine, but also help to build a complete health ecosystem centered on quality services, medical manufacturing, research, and professional talent.

“We hope that Sarawak will not only participate in service industries such as medical tourism, but also master the capabilities for the entire value chain from R&D and production to global medical product marketing.”

He was speaking to the media after attending the “5th International Burn and Wound Conference” this morning. He is also Sarawak’s Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.

He said that the development of regenerative medicine is attracting increasing attention, particularly in the area of wound healing, with collagen playing a key role.

“During the wound healing process, skin doesn't grow directly on the wound surface but must first undergo regeneration. Therefore, we need a factory to produce these types of products, which will not only benefit Sarawak but also the world.”

He revealed that the American company, which specializes in wound management and collagen R&D, has recently held separate meetings with the Sarawak Premier and himself to finalize initial plans for setting up the factory in Kuching.

“This company will establish a collagen production facility, with products applied in the field of regenerative medicine, marking a major breakthrough in high-tech medical manufacturing.”

He emphasized that Sarawak is actively attracting forward-looking and high value-added medical investment projects to promote the transformation and upgrading of the regional health industry and drive the development as an international center for medical innovation.
