(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) The Standards Division (SDT) under the Industry and Business Ecosystem (IBE) Division of Brunei's Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) hosted the ASEAN regional program seminar online on June 11, 2025. The seminar is part of the "Strengthening ASEAN Quality Infrastructure" program (2023-2026) focusing on software evaluation for type approval.
Director of the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division, Haji Mohd Hisyam bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, stated that in the digital era, the digitization of measurement systems has become essential, and measurement software is crucial for establishing trust, transparency, and measurement traceability.
He pointed out that regulatory agencies play an important role in ensuring the integrity of systems and encouraging innovation.
The hosting of this training program demonstrates Brunei's commitment to further strengthening the regulatory framework, empowering local regulatory bodies to more broadly facilitate and encourage the integration and quality of ASEAN infrastructure development.
This initiative aligns with Brunei's aspiration under the "Wawasan Brunei 2035" to support ASEAN's collective effort to build an integrated and competitive region. Software evaluation skills are a fundamental requirement of modern statutory metrology.
The training program is co-hosted by Brunei in collaboration with the German National Metrology Institute, the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM), and ASEAN Working Group on Legal Metrology (WG3). The first session of this training program was attended by 61 participants from ASEAN member countries and Germany.
