Fatal Accident on Pan-Borneo Highway: Elderly Man Killed

(Sri Aman, 29th) A 77-year-old elderly man was killed on June 28 (Saturday) at 2:00 pm while riding a motorcycle on the Pan-Borneo Highway at the Betong-Sri Aman-Maradong stretch, after colliding with a car.
According to Sri Aman District Police Chief Superintendent Aswandy Anis, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was traveling from Sri Aman to Sungai Rusa and suddenly switched from the left lane to the right lane without signaling.
"At the same time, a 30-year-old woman was driving a car from Kuching to Sibu, traveling on the right lane. When the deceased suddenly changed lanes, the driver was unable to react in time and the car rear-ended the motorcycle."
Medical personnel from Sri Aman Hospital arrived at the scene at 2:20 pm and confirmed that the motorcyclist had died at the scene, while the car driver was unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
