(Bandar Seri Begawan, 25th) The Royal Brunei Police Force today held a commissioning ceremony for a new Interceptor Class Patrol Boat (ICB) at Mangrove Paradise Resort, marking a historic step forward in strengthening national maritime security.
The ceremony was graced by the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Halbi, as the guest of honor. The acquisition of the ICB is a strategic achievement under the Police Force’s maritime operations plan and aligns with the goals of the “Brunei Vision 2035” to establish a safe, resilient, and prosperous nation.
This patrol boat is not only an addition to physical assets, but also symbolizes the government’s ongoing commitment to responding to increasingly complex and dynamic maritime security threats.
The ICB is equipped with the latest navigation and communication systems, specifically designed for high-speed patrols, intercepting suspicious targets, and swiftly responding to smuggling, border incursions, and cross-border criminal activity.
As the national coordinator for security policy, the Joint Police Maritime (JPM) also supports this initiative and, through a “whole-of-government” approach, works closely with key agencies such as the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Customs Department (JKED), Department of Immigration and National Registration (JIPK), Narcotics Control Bureau (BKN), National Maritime Coordination Centre (PPMK), and the Brunei Maritime and Port Authority (MPABD), to comprehensively strengthen maritime law oversight and enforcement effectiveness.
According to the Director of Operations, this accomplishment is expected to inspire members of the Marine Police (PolMar) to show greater enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism in their daily duties, boosting public confidence in waterway security.
At the ceremony, the guest of honor also officiated a sea trial for the new patrol boat and held a peace prayer before cruising along the Brunei River. Muhammad Noor, CEO of Brunei Engineering, Logistics & Training Solutions (BELTS), formally handed over a model of the interceptor boat to the guest of honor, accompanied by a company video and on-site demonstration of the interceptor’s operations.
As a symbol of the maritime security force’s preparedness, courage, and fighting spirit, this interceptor’s trial voyage will further solidify the Marine Police’s frontline role in ensuring the safety and sovereignty of national waters.
