Taiwanese diabolo coach Lu Ji-xian was accused of receiving NT$5.7 million (about RM820,000) from Chinese national security officials, buying intel from servicemen at prices ranging from NT$5,000 (around RM725) to over NT$10,000 (around RM1,450), and then transmitting the information to the Chinese Communist Party via a “calculator” app at a base in Yangmingshan. The younger brother of celebrity Kuo Shu-yao, Kuo Bo-ting, was also indicted for helping to operate the organization, suspected of violating the National Security Act and other crimes. On the 30th, the Taipei District Court sentenced Lu Ji-xian to 10 years and 6 months, and Kuo Bo-ting to 3 years and 10 months. The other 8 defendants were sentenced to terms ranging from 2 years and 2 months to 8 years.

Lu Ji-xian once served as the executive director of the Republic of China Diabolo Association. Between 2010 and 2011, while performing in China, he was approached by CCP Ministry of State Security intelligence officers and recruited to help absorb service members from Taiwan’s military units. Both sides used a Chinese national named Tian Xi to help transfer the necessary funds. Considering his own previous fraud conviction, Lu Ji-xian was reluctant to use his personal account, so he borrowed accounts from Kuo Bo-ting and two others to receive the payments.
