(Kuala Lumpur, 25th) An e-hailing car blatantly ran a red light and almost hit a pedestrian crossing the road. Kuala Lumpur police launched an investigation following CCTV footage and have arrested the 42-year-old e-hailing driver.
A video that went viral online shows a car ignoring the red traffic light and speeding through, almost hitting a woman who was walking across the zebra crossing; the woman dodged in panic, even losing her shoes, making for a dramatic scene.
After regaining her composure, the woman picked up her shoes and continued walking. The entire process was captured and uploaded online, sparking widespread public discussion and criticism.
According to one dashcam video timestamp, the incident happened on Tuesday (23rd) at 6:29 pm. Police confirmed that it occurred at the traffic lights on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin in the capital, heading towards Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja. The 42-year-old driver was arrested after the incident.
Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police Chief Dato' Yusoff pointed out that the involved individual was driving a Bezza from Jalan Kinabalu towards Jalan Raja and ran a red light at the scene, nearly causing casualties.
He issued a statement saying that at 8:15 am on Wednesday, police detained a 42-year-old e-hailing driver to assist in the investigation.
He stated that the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department is investigating the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (reckless and dangerous driving).
