(Abu Dhabi, 26th) According to the International Astronomical Centre's prediction, Hari Raya Haji (Hari Raya Aidiladha) is expected to be celebrated on Friday, June 6, in most Islamic countries.
The centre, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, stated that the crescent marking the start of the 1446 Hijri month of 'Dhul Hijjah' is likely to be visible on Tuesday, May 27, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The centre director, Mohammad Shawkat Odeh, noted that the crescent can be observed through a telescope in parts of Central Asia and West Asia, as well as most of Africa and Europe.
He also added that in certain regions of the Americas, the crescent might be visible to the naked eye without the need for a telescope.
Based on these astronomical calculations, May 28 is expected to be the first day of Dhul Hijjah, and Hari Raya Haji will fall on the 10th day of that month, which is Friday, June 6.
Hari Raya Haji is one of the two major Islamic festivals and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
