During Thailand’s Songkran Festival, large numbers of tourists flocked to various parts of the country, and the government expects this year’s festival tourism revenue to surpass last year’s, continuing to drive economic growth.

According to Bloomberg, Thai government spokesperson Pherwewa Wadhana stated today that as of April 12, six main event locations in Bangkok and the central region had welcomed over 558,000 tourist visits. Among them, the Songkran Festival event at Siam Square attracted approximately 183,500 people, making it the most visited site. The capital alone hosted more than 90 related celebration events.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand stated on the 14th that it estimates this year’s Songkran Festival will generate about 30.4 billion baht (approximately 1.226 billion US dollars) in tourism revenue, a 6% increase from last year.

In addition, the tourism authority expects that between April 11 and 15, the number of inbound foreign tourists will reach 500,000, a year-on-year increase of 4%, contributing about 8.1 billion baht in revenue.

At the same time, authorities also estimate that local residents will make about 5.96 million domestic trips during the festival period, up 7% year-on-year, which is expected to generate around 22.3 billion baht in domestic tourism revenue.
