(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) Spokesperson for the Madani Government and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi stated that, given the continuing instability of global geopolitical situations, the government will pay more comprehensive attention to people's cost of living issues in the 2027 fiscal budget.
He said that, when formulating the budget, various external factors will also be reviewed, including the trend of international crude oil prices.
"I think overall, the government’s focus in the 2027 budget includes solving the people's cost of living issues more comprehensively, while taking into account the yet unresolved geopolitical situations."
"Therefore, crude oil prices are usually one of the benchmarks and will be among the factors we consider."
He said this to the media after officiating at the launch of the 2026 Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya 'Glorious Stripes Independence Journey' (KMJG) X JAGO event at Sri Sentosa Garden Market today.
Fahmi mentioned that the budget will also prioritize projects that can quickly address people's issues, while striving to attract more domestic and international investment and supporting the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
He said the Communications Ministry’s priorities are to improve internet coverage, especially in remote areas.
In addition, he said that the ministry is also studying the sustainable development of media and considering the provision of incentive measures to attract more international events and film productions to Malaysia.
"Perhaps some incentive measures, such as the Malaysia Concert and Event Incentive Scheme (CEMI) and the Malaysia Film Shooting Incentive Scheme (FIMI)... Both measures can attract more investors to Malaysia."
"Therefore, these are the matters currently being discussed by the Communications Ministry and are also the information we have received from the Finance Ministry."
