Recently, a Chinese female overseas student in South Korea was murdered and dismembered, and her body was dumped. The South Korean court has approved the arrest of the Chinese suspect, who has refused to undergo a psychopathy test.
According to a compilation of foreign media reports, the Chinese university lecturer surnamed Zheng, suspected of murdering the Chinese female student, was formally arrested on the 27th. The Daegu District Court conducted an arrest review on Zheng that day and issued a warrant on the grounds of a flight risk.
According to news from the Gyeongsan Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, on the 28th, the police tried to have Zheng undergo a psychopathy test the previous day. Zheng initially agreed to the test but later changed his mind and refused. The police stated that the psychopathy test is conducted via interview, and if the suspect refuses, the police have no means to enforce it. The police do not rule out the possibility that Zheng refused the test out of concern that the results could influence the verdict. It is understood Zheng hired a defense lawyer the previous day.
In the early morning of August 20, lecturer Zheng, in his 30s, allegedly murdered a 25-year-old Chinese female student at his residence in Hahyang-eup, Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province, and mutilated and abandoned parts of her body.
Reportedly, the victim was a graduate student at a university in Gyeongsan City and had traveled to South Korea this time to collect her graduation certificate. Lecturer Zheng had previously been a lecturer at the university where the female student studied, which was how they became acquainted.
The student lost contact with her family on the 18th, and on the afternoon of the 25th, she was found dead at Zheng's residence.
According to news from the Gyeongsan Police Station on the 27th, Zheng admitted to part of the crime during interrogation, confessing that he "killed the victim in the early morning of the 20th." After committing the crime, he severely mutilated the victim's body and scattered the remains in various locations in Gyeongsan as well as in Gyeonggi Province 250 kilometers away.
On the 26th, Daegu Catholic University confirmed that the suspect Zheng was a lecturer at the university, having taught "Rehabilitation Therapy" and "Neuroanatomy," and was also scheduled to teach "Human Anatomy" and "Musculoskeletal System Diseases and Treatments" in the coming semester. People at the university also revealed that Zheng often took care of the victim on the pretext of them both being Chinese and that the two knew each other well.
