(Jakarta) The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in the second week of March 2026, a total of 25 provinces nationwide saw an increase in their Price Development Index (IPH), while another 13 provinces recorded a decrease, indicating price fluctuations in certain regions.

Arden Hartono, Deputy Head of Distribution and Service Statistics at BPS, pointed out during a regional inflation control meeting held online on Monday that the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) recorded the highest IPH increase at 2.85%, followed by Gorontalo Province at 1.78%, and West Nusa Tenggara Province at 1.71%.

He said that other regions that experienced IPH increases include Banten, Central Java (Jawa Tengah), Yogyakarta Special Region, West Sulawesi (Sulawesi Barat), East Java (Jawa Timur), and North Maluku (Maluku Utara).

According to BPS analysis, the recent IPH increase has been mainly driven by rising prices of various food items, especially bird's eye chili (cabai rawit), beef, and eggs. In addition, broiler chicken prices have also increased in some regions.

BPS also noted that the number of regencies/cities experiencing an IPH increase had grown compared to the previous week. As of March 13, 2026, a total of 222 regencies/cities nationwide saw an IPH rise, up from 204 in the previous week.

Among the regencies/cities, Barru Regency (Barru) in South Sulawesi recorded the highest increase, with IPH rising by 3.91%; followed by Bener Meriah Regency in Aceh Province at 3.17%, and Brebes Regency in Central Java at 3.07%.

In addition, Bintan Regency in Riau Islands Province, Bolaang Mongondow Timur in North Sulawesi, Bone Bolango in Gorontalo Province, and Kupang Regency in East Nusa Tenggara Province also registered notable increases.

In Jakarta, the Thousand Islands Administrative Regency (Kepulauan Seribu) saw its IPH rise by 2.85%; in East Java, Ponorogo Regency and Pasuruan Regency also experienced increases.

However, BPS also pointed out that in some regions, the IPH decreased, with certain areas of West Kalimantan seeing the largest drop, up to 5.66%. Parts of North Sumatra and West Papua also recorded decreases.

Arden stated that overall, recent IPH fluctuations in various regions remain primarily influenced by changes in major food prices, particularly the price swings of agricultural products such as bird's eye chili, broiler chicken, and beef.
