(Kuching, Jan 10) In response to the delay in approving vehicle trade licenses in Sarawak, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin recently held discussions with Norizan Jaili, Director of the Sarawak Land Transport Department, and its officials at his office to find a solution as soon as possible.
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin pointed out that according to the explanation from the Sarawak Land Transport Department, the main reason for the delay in approving vehicle trade licenses is that the department is reviewing the qualifications of all previously approved companies. This means a more thorough review process is required to prevent companies from abusing commercial licenses.
“In addition, most of the delays are due to incomplete application materials submitted by company representatives.”
In response to this situation, Sarawak Minister of Transportation Dato Sri Li Jing Sheng asked the Sarawak Land Transport Department to take corresponding measures to ensure conditional approval for relevant operators, so that they can operate smoothly and avoid greater difficulties in the industry.
He emphasized that with conditional approval, relevant companies must ensure compliance with all regulations.
He disclosed that the qualifications for vehicle trade licenses are divided into three categories of companies: car dealers or resellers, car repairers, and car manufacturers.
Meanwhile, JPJ Sarawak Director Norizan bin Jili noted that another reason for the delay is that most company representatives failed to submit complete application documents.
He stated that if the documents are complete, the Sarawak Land Transport Department will begin processing on the day the complete documents are received and complete the approval within no more than seven working days.
To prevent similar issues from occurring again, Norizan Jaili stated that the Sarawak Land Transport Department will hold communication discussions with relevant companies in the near future.
If companies have any questions, they can contact the Sarawak Land Transport Department's vehicle license unit head at 082-373 018 (extension 221).
