According to data released by the Malaysian Statistics Department, our country experienced floods last year that resulted in huge losses, amounting to 933.4 million ringgit!
Fire and Rescue Department Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham said the residential property losses were most severe in Kelantan, totaling 139 million ringgit, with Pasir Mas being the worst hit (46.2 million ringgit), followed by Tumpat (31.7 million ringgit) and Kota Bharu (19.2 million ringgit).
“These significant losses highlight the importance of implementing effective disaster management strategies and mitigation measures at the state level.”
“Kelantan's Fire and Rescue Department must thoroughly analyze these data to conduct more effective planning, including manpower deployment, asset preparation, and appropriate emergency plans.”
He said this at a press conference after attending the Fire and Rescue Service Medal, Excellence Service Award, and 30-year Service Certificate presentation ceremony at the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department on Monday (21st).
Local Heavy Rainfall Possible Monday Afternoon Fire and Rescue Department on High Alert
In addition, with the change in weather patterns, heavy localized rainfall is expected on Monday afternoon, increasing the risk of flash floods, and the Fire and Rescue Department has heightened the alert status nationwide.
Nor Hisham said that since flash floods occurred in six districts including several areas in Selangor, Johor, and Sabah last week, fire and rescue departments and personnel nationwide have been instructed to remain on standby.
“We have issued warnings to all fire and rescue departments to be more thoroughly prepared, especially in high-risk areas.”
“Compared to monsoon floods, the impact of flash floods is often greater because they happen suddenly, leaving residents with almost no time to prepare.”
