(Kuching, 25th) The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) is committed to implementing a more proactive working approach next year to ensure more effective two-way communication with the public.
Datuk Abdullah Saido, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Public Relations), stated that the organizational structure of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit would undergo some restructuring next year.
He mentioned that this approach includes the addition of new departments, which is expected to enhance the role of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit in conveying information more effectively and accurately.
“The purpose of the restructuring is to improve the efficiency and quality of the work of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit. This new approach aligns with our mission to ensure government information is effectively communicated to the public.”
He made these remarks at the 2024 Sarawak Public Communications Unit appreciation banquet held in Kuching last night.
He added that this strategy is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Sarawak Public Communications Unit as the main platform for two-way communication between the Sarawak government and the public.
He said this approach could close the understanding gap between the Sarawak government and the public.
“Our 2025 work will be different from before, with all aspects being more active and proactive. I have instructed the restructuring of some departments within the Sarawak Public Communications Unit to ensure more efficient and swift performance.”
Additionally, the achievements of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit throughout 2024 were recognized that night, including the management of 96% of the budget, the production of 1,259 infographics, and the implementation of 32 live broadcasts.
He said that in terms of media management, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit has conducted 463 strategic collaborations with local and national media organizations.
This effort demonstrates the Sarawak Public Communications Unit’s continued commitment to strengthening relations with the media.
At the appreciation banquet, 14 Sarawak Public Communications Unit employees were awarded the Outstanding Service Award (APC) for their excellent job performance throughout 2023.
Moreover, the banquet also honored retirees who contributed to the unit's outstanding achievements.
