(Kuala Lumpur, 9th) The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that from the beginning of this year until June, under the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) program, a total of 78 Myanmar Rohingya individuals have been confirmed as refugees, among whom 25 have been verified to meet employment qualifications and have been included in the pilot employment program.

Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution pointed out in a written reply to Parliament that the first phase of the DPP program focuses on detainees, mainly Myanmar Rohingya, in immigration detention centers in Peninsular Malaysia.

He said that up to now, a total of 4,010 detainees have been registered, including 4,008 Myanmar nationals and one each from Sudan and Syria. This includes 2,746 men, 632 women, 392 boys, and 240 girls.

He said that this group will be transferred in phases to the Special Isolation Center for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (PPKPPS) in Bidor, Perak, which can accommodate 400 people, for refugee status determination procedures.

As of June 2026, a total of 128 Myanmar (Rohingya) detainees have been transferred to the center, including 127 men and 1 woman. Among them, 77 men and 1 woman have been approved as refugees under the DPP program and will be released after completing the relevant procedures.

He said that the second phase of the DPP program will be launched in the second half of this year, involving individuals outside immigration detention centers who hold UNHCR cards or claim to be refugees. Authorities will set up registration work at refugee status determination centers to be announced later, and plan to complete all registration procedures before December 31, 2029.

He added that the Ministry of Home Affairs has simultaneously launched a DPP Employment Program pilot project, targeting the 78 individuals who have been confirmed as refugees, of whom 25 have been verified to qualify for employment.

He further stated that the registration work of the DPP program is handled by a special task force for refugee registration set up by the Immigration Department, and all registration procedures are independently carried out by the Immigration Department without the involvement of any non-governmental organizations.
