Considering the Demands of Fishermen, Smallholders and Small Boat Owners, Anwar: Ensuring RON95 Subsidy Also Benefits Them

(Kuala Lumpur, 26th) Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the government will take into consideration the demands of some fishermen, smallholders, and small boat owners who use RON95 to ensure they too can benefit from the RON95 petrol subsidy scheme (BUDI95).
He said the government understands there are certain situations, such as in Sabah, Sarawak, and Kelantan, where some small-scale fishermen or small boat owners use RON95 petrol but do not hold a driving license under their names.
He said today at the Ministry of Finance’s monthly assembly: “Fishermen and smallholders originally already have special allowances, as well as diesel subsidies, but if there are indeed people using RON95 to operate small boats, they can submit an appeal.
“I guarantee the government will assist those who are eligible. The number of people involved in this area is not large, so we are able to consider it.”
Anwar pointed out that the scope of consideration also includes those who use or own generators and grass trimmers.
“Grass trimmers, generators, if they use RON95, we can still provide assistance.”
He mentioned that the implementation of the BUDI95 scheme is indeed based on the interests of tens of millions of people, so he reminded the public not to be influenced by those who attempt to smear the scheme.
“If you are truly using RON95, we will provide assistance, but don’t listen to the words of those harboring ill intentions who are trying to undermine these efforts. Most importantly, this brings enormous benefits to the people.”
Anwar also criticized some individuals, including preachers, who arbitrarily criticize the BUDI95 scheme, saying they do not understand that the policy is intended to benefit tens of millions of Malaysians.
In addition, Anwar explained that in order to avoid disputes among different groups, it was decided not to use the main database (PADU) to distribute fuel subsidies.
He gave an example: a household with a monthly income of RM18,000, but having 6 children, of which 3 are in university.
“If according to the initial calculation, they are excluded from the petrol subsidy or price reduction, it will cause dissatisfaction.”
