(Kuching, 23rd)—A traffic accident occurred yesterday morning at the 433rd kilometer mark of the Saratok Pan Borneo Highway, involving a motorcycle and a car. An elderly woman unfortunately died, while another man with hearing impairment (OKU) was seriously injured.
According to TVS News, Saratok District Police Chief Matthew Manggi stated that the accident took place around 7 am on the 22nd, involving a Perodua Axia sedan and a Honda Dash 125 motorcycle.
He said the car driver was a 57-year-old man from Bintangor, who was uninjured in the accident.
“Preliminary investigations found that at the time of the incident, the Axia was traveling in the right lane, while the motorcyclist, who had originally been in the left lane, is believed to have suddenly changed lanes to the right,” he stated in a press release yesterday.
He added that, because the distance between the two vehicles was too close, the car driver was unable to avoid a collision and struck the right side of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, a 69-year-old man from Roban who holds a disabled (hearing impaired) card, suffered a fractured right leg and was subsequently sent to the Sarikei Hospital for further treatment.
The motorcycle passenger, a 64-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at 9:23 am while receiving treatment at Saratok Hospital.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act, and police are continuing with further investigations.
