(Miri, 22nd) Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man expressed his gratitude to the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia for Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG) for providing the necessary funding to establish community learning centers in Miri.
He said this initiative enables us to set up two free tutoring centers at Tanjong Community Center and MYY Shopping Center, specifically aimed at helping students and families in financial difficulty. Education is the foundation of sustainable development, and this effort supports Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which is vital for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a better future.
“We also recognize the interconnection between sustainable development goals—by improving educational opportunities, we also contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 1: No Poverty and Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequality. This community learning center not only provides academic support; it aims to empower our local community by providing children and youths with the tools they need to succeed in life.”
He noted, I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to former Miri Member of Parliament Hii Yii Chiong for generously providing us with the space at Tanjong Community Center. His contribution has allowed us to conduct these impactful community activities in a safe and convenient environment, and Hii Yii Chiong has also generously donated stationery to students to aid their studies.
“This is a collaborative effort that embodies the true spirit of Malaysia Baharu, where the government, civil society, and the community work together to ensure no one is left behind. We are committed to making this community learning center a success and expanding similar projects to other areas in Miri in the future.”
