(Miri, 30th) Miri Chung Hwa Gong School delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Sarawak Chinese Carnival Primary and Secondary School Poetry Recitation Competition, clinching the championship in the lower primary group and taking second place in the upper primary group, once again bringing glory to the school.
The event was held from April 27th to 29th in Sarikei. The school sent five students to compete, with a four-student team in the lower primary group claiming the championship. The team members are Wang Yanmin from 3-Ji class, Cai Gaohe from 2-Jia class, Zhou Peihuan from 3-Ji class, and Wu Peixuan from 2-Ji class. They recited a poem specially composed by their advisor, Ms. Shen Shuqing, delivering an impressive performance that greatly impressed the judges.
In the upper primary group, participant Qian Liting won runner-up with her recitation of Cai Chunmei's work "May's Spring Mud."
The school's poetry recitation team is guided by teachers Shen Shuqing, Li Lifang, Ye Yuling, Luo Jinlian, Cai Tianyu, and Li Lizhu. The lower primary championship team will represent Sarawak at the national Chinese Carnival primary and secondary school poetry recitation competition to be held in July this year, striving for even greater achievements.
It is reported that since the first national poetry recitation competition in 2005, the school has repeatedly won accolades. Last year, it claimed the national championship for the sixth time, helping Sarawak secure the overall team championship. The school expresses its gratitude to the board, principal, teachers, and parents for their long-term support and encouragement, enabling the team to continuously improve and achieve outstanding results.
