Tunglin Resort Hotel and 36-Hole Golf Course Inaugurated Lee Kim Shin: Driving Miri's Golf Tourism Development

(Miri, 20th) Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the newly established Tunglin Resort Hotel and the brand-new Mulu and Niah 18-hole golf courses by Tunglin Golf Club inject strong momentum into Miri's tourism and business development while laying a solid foundation for the city to become a regional golf destination.

He made this statement during the grand opening ceremony of Tunglin Golf Club's Tunglin Resort Hotel and the newly launched Mulu 18-hole and Niah 18-hole golf courses this morning.

Lee Kim Shin remarked that the Tunglin 36-hole golf course has the capability to host international tournaments. In the future, it can not only attract more golfers from both domestic and international circles but also serve as a suitable venue for large-scale corporate events and high-end tourism promotions.

“I suggest incorporating golf training courses in the future, combining them with resort experiences to especially attract tourists from winter countries, such as Korea, to Miri to learn and enjoy the joys of golf, thereby promoting comprehensive sports tourism development.”

He pointed out that in alignment with Miri’s overall development blueprint, the Sarawak government is actively advancing several key infrastructure projects, including upgrading Miri Airport, expanding Miri Port, dredging the Miri River, and constructing roads from Tunglin to Mulu to improve the tourism and transportation network and enhance the city’s overall competitiveness.

He mentioned that Tunglin Resort has 186 rooms, including premium suites, equipped with facilities such as a sky café, fitness center, and golf clubhouse, providing an ideal environment for high-end business and leisure travelers.

“The newly inaugurated Mulu and Niah courses are designed to meet international standards. Whether for seasoned players or beginners, everyone can enjoy a high-level golfing experience here. It is expected to attract more tournaments and international players to visit.”

Lee Kim Shin highly commended the Tunglin team for their contributions over the past 20 years in golf course development, hotel operations, and social welfare, especially during the pandemic when they proactively provided quarantine facilities and vaccination centers, demonstrating a high level of corporate social responsibility.

“The Tunglin spirit is commendable. They have also actively assisted indigenous communities, including promoting medical care, education, and infrastructure improvement, serving as an exemplary model for corporate social contribution.”

He also mentioned that the Sarawak government is actively promoting the establishment of a medical research institution at the proposed Fudan Medical University in Bukit, as well as planning to establish several computing technology schools and exhibition centers, striving to make Miri a regional hub for education and healthcare.
