(Kuching, 16th) The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) Global Organization has been granted "executing partner" status by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), further strengthening Malaysia’s role as a regional parliamentary platform hub in the fields of population, reproductive health, gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
Malaysian AFPPD Chairperson and Minister of Works, Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated in a Facebook post that the agreement was signed on Tuesday (May 12).
He said: “This status enables AFPPD Global to implement global and regional programs funded by the UNFPA from 2026 to 2029, thereby enhancing its role in promoting parliamentary cooperation on population and development issues within the region.”
He also congratulated Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee Chuan How, commending his leadership as AFPPD Global Secretary-General and Malaysian AFPPD Vice-Chairman in facilitating this important milestone.
He stated that this achievement is also of great significance for Malaysia, reflecting the country’s growing role and trust in international parliamentary and UN-related cooperation.
“AFPPD Malaysia looks forward to assisting AFPPD Global in turning this recognition into concrete outcomes of practical significance for the people of the Asia-Pacific region.” he added.
