(Miri, 3rd) Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin State Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, while inspecting the newly constructed parking lot at Pujut National Secondary School today, stated that the project had been planned for a long time, aiming to comprehensively alleviate the long-term traffic congestion in the school area and provide students and parents with a safer and more convenient pick-up and drop-off environment.

He said that the parking lot project was successfully implemented under his active advocacy, and the overall plan can accommodate 156 cars and 40 motorcycles, making it one of the largest dedicated parking facilities for schools in the Miri area. With the completion of the project, it will effectively improve issues such as traffic congestion and illegal roadside parking during student pick-up and drop-off times, while also reducing inconveniences to nearby residents’ daily commutes.

Lee Kim Shin pointed out that previously, many residents reported serious traffic jams during school hours, making it difficult for vehicles to enter and exit. Now, with the completion of the parking lot and related road upgrades, he believes the situation will greatly improve. He urges parents to cooperate with the school and the Parent-Teacher Association by making good use of the new parking lot and refrain from parking on the roadside for safety reasons.

He revealed that the total allocation for this project is RM1.8 million, covering the Pujut National Secondary School parking lot and Senadin National Primary School road upgrading works. Currently, there is about RM200,000 remaining in the parking lot budget, which will be prioritized to add a covered waiting area, allowing students to wait for their parents without fear of sun or rain.

In addition, he also plans to construct, in phases, a covered walkway about 400 meters long, connecting the parking lot to the school entrance, to provide students with a better walking environment. If this year's funds are insufficient, priority will be given to building the waiting area, and the remaining works will be arranged according to the situation.

Lee Kim Shin emphasized that the improvement of educational facilities not only helps enhance the campus environment but also ensures student safety. He will continue to monitor the progress of the project and strive for more resources to equip the school with necessary facilities, allowing students to study in a safer and more comfortable environment.
