(Kuala Lumpur, 24th) Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi pointed out that data protection is extremely important, as transactions become increasingly digital and interconnected, and in the coming years, the importance of data protection will only grow.
“I think these concerns are completely reasonable. I can’t speak for other agencies, but how we handle data and how we protect data will become increasingly important in the coming years.
“Data is the oil of the new era, it is the currency that drives the economy. If we can’t protect data, it will get us into trouble.”
He made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo, when responding to public concerns over heightened risks of internal data leaks within government agencies.
