(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) Recently, Dr. Zi Rongyao, a doctoral student from the School of Law and Sociology at Yunnan Normal University, arrived in Brunei to officially launch a multi-day humanities field research project. This research focuses on the historical context, current situation, and development trajectory of the Chinese community and Chinese education in Brunei. The aim is to outline the inheritance of Chinese culture in the local community through field visits and in-depth interviews, and to accumulate firsthand materials for relevant academic research.
While in Brunei, Zi Rongyao will visit multiple Chinese schools, educational institutions, as well as senior figures in Chinese education and community leaders, to systematically understand the operational mechanisms and real-world challenges of Chinese education in a multicultural environment.
Yesterday, Zi Rongyao made a special visit to Tutong Chung Hwa School, where he was warmly received by Principal Hj Yahya and Vice Principal Fang Jingjing. Accompanied by the school officials, he inspected the school's Chinese teaching activities and discussed practical issues such as student demographics, teacher allocation, and the applicability of teaching materials. Afterwards, Vice Principal Fang Jingjing gave an in-depth interview, sharing the school's practical exploration and thoughts on topics including the future direction of Chinese education, teaching strategies for students of different ethnic backgrounds, optimization of the curriculum system, and expansion of extracurricular educational activities. The two sides also held pragmatic discussions on concrete matters such as mechanisms for Chinese volunteer teachers to assist in Brunei and inter-school educational cooperation.
