Parti Keadilan Rakyat (People’s Justice Party) has stated that it will not rashly take disciplinary action against Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi, but he must provide an explanation by Saturday (28th) regarding his recent repeated hints of possibly forming his own camp or not contesting the next general election under the party’s banner.
Earlier, the party had already sent Rafizi a letter requesting an explanation after he publicly indicated that he might defend his seat as a non-party member.
The party’s Secretary-General, Fahmi Fadzil, told Bernama that the 5-day deadline given to Rafizi has already expired.
She said that since Rafizi had stated he would contest the 16th General Election but did not intend to use the party’s banner, it inevitably sparked speculation about his future.
“We issued the request for explanation to give him a chance to clarify his position, not because we are eager to take disciplinary action.”
Fahmi also emphasized that the party leadership will act in accordance with the Party Constitution and will not make any decisions before hearing the explanation from the person involved.
She stated that the party’s central leadership council will meet on March 1, and any further action against Rafizi will depend on his explanation and the situation at the time.
As of now, the media has contacted Rafizi for a response, but has yet to receive any reply.
