Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education Attends SEAMEO Executive Committee Meeting

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 25th) The Ministry of Education's Permanent Secretary (Core Education) Santiya Julaini Ganchanawati attended and presided over the 2025 Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Executive Committee Meeting, the 20th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (SOM-ED), and the 15th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Education (ASEAN SOM-ED+3), held from August 20 to 22 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The SEAMEO Executive Committee convenes senior officials annually to provide advice to SEAMEO senior officials on the overall work priorities and operations of SEAMEO units, as well as to set direction and recommendations for the management of the SEAMEO Secretariat and the overall development of SEAMEO centres.
Topics discussed included the SEAMEO Secretariat’s work plan report, outcome framework, and proposals and reports of SEAMEO’s subsidiary projects and programs.
The meeting decided to approve several proposals of the 8th SEAMEO Senior Officials Meeting, scheduled for November 2025.
After the SEAMEO Executive Committee Meeting, the Brunei delegation attended the 20th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (ASEAN SOM-ED) and the 15th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Education (ASEAN SOM-ED+3).
These meetings are held annually to discuss current regional education issues and to review the progress of regional education programs, initiatives, and activities by ASEAN Member States as well as ASEAN with its three partners (China, Japan, and South Korea). The meetings also explored further cooperation with dialogue partners in the field of education.
During the meeting, the Brunei Ministry of Education's Permanent Secretary reported on activities led by the Ministry under the ASEAN Education Work Plan 2021-2025.
These activities included initiatives by the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO OCTECH) and Brunei's Leaders and Teachers Academy.
