Multiple members of the UK Cabinet are demanding that Prime Minister Starmer set a timetable for his resignation, including Foreign Secretary Cooper and Home Secretary Mahmoud.
According to ITV, Cooper, Mahmoud and two other cabinet ministers went together to 10 Downing Street to ask Starmer to consider setting a timetable for his resignation.
The Guardian reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary Lammy and Defence Secretary Healey are believed to have discussed with the Prime Minister how to make arrangements for the future in a "responsible, dignified and orderly" manner.
The report also states that previously, four government ministerial aides have already announced their resignations, joining more than 70 Labour MPs in calling on Starmer to resign or set a resignation timetable.
According to reports, Starmer will hold a cabinet meeting on the morning of the 12th local time and is currently "weighing his options."
Since the start of this year, Starmer has twice faced resignation pressure due to appointing Mandelson—who had close ties to the late American financier Epstein—as Ambassador to the US. In the recent UK local elections, the ruling Labour Party led by Starmer suffered a heavy defeat, winning just over 1,000 out of about 5,000 seats contested in England. The crushing loss has intensified calls for Starmer's resignation.
On the 11th, Starmer stated that the local election results were grim and heartbreaking, and that he is willing to take responsibility, but he will not simply walk away and plunge the country into chaos.
