(Miri, 31st) As we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new, Secretary of Sarawak Pakatan Harapan and Sarawak Democratic Action Party, Lawyer Alan Ling Sie Kiong, extends his most sincere New Year’s greetings to all the people of Sarawak! He candidly states that the new year is a crucial time for us to re-evaluate the past and look forward to the future.
He said that in the past year, we have experienced many challenges and opportunities. However, we must ask ourselves a crucial question: “Have the lives of the people of Sarawak really improved?” In many areas, basic facilities remain inadequate, shortages of medical resources continue to plague remote communities, and the younger generation still struggles with employment opportunities and the burden of expensive housing prices.
“Sarawak is rich in natural resources and diverse cultures, which are our valuable assets. However, has this wealth truly brought substantial changes to the lives of the people? This is a question we must ponder deeply, and it is the core goal we must strive to resolve in our future actions.”
“There is a severe disparity between the rich and poor in Sarawak. This is a fact and a fundamental issue, which is inseparable from governance policies. The Sarawak government must make amends and strive to close the gap to improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens.”
“I sincerely hope that Sarawak can move more steadily towards the path of development in the new year. It’s not just development in infrastructure, but also focusing on social justice and the welfare of the people. The government’s policy direction must be built on solid foundations, not on short-sighted gains and high-flown aspirations.”
He believes that only through transparent policy formulation and efficient implementation can Sarawak truly achieve long-term prosperity. We need to focus on the real needs of the people and listen to their voices, rather than merely pursuing seemingly glamorous superficial achievements.
Finally, he extends his most heartfelt New Year wishes to every person in Sarawak. May everyone enjoy good health, successful careers, and happy families in the new year! Let us work together to create a brighter future for Sarawak.
