On Thursday (June 12), Chinese authorities announced that starting immediately, Indonesia will be included in the 240-hour transit visa-free policy, increasing the number of applicable countries to 55.

According to a statement from China's National Immigration Administration on its official website on Thursday, from June 12, 2025, citizens of Indonesia can benefit from the 240-hour transit visa-free policy for convenient travel to China. The scope of China's 240-hour transit visa-free policy now extends to 55 countries.

Among these 55 countries, 40 are from Europe, including France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, and Ukraine. The other 15 countries are from the Americas, Oceania, and Asia. The six countries from the Americas are the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile; the two countries from Oceania are Australia and New Zealand; and the seven Asian countries are South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Indonesia.

Currently, citizens from Indonesia, Russia, the United Kingdom, and other 55 countries holding valid international travel documents and confirmed onward tickets with a reserved seat and date can transit through China to a third country or region via any of the 60 open ports in 24 provinces (regions, municipalities) such as Beijing and Shanghai without a visa, and stay in the designated area for activities not exceeding 10 days. During their stay, they can engage in tourism, business, visits, family reunions, and other activities, while activities such as work, studies, and journalism that require prior approval still need a proper visa.

A representative from China's National Immigration Administration explained that adding Indonesia to the 240-hour transit visa-free policy aims to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Central Peripheral Work Conference and strengthen exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. This is conducive to enhancing the favorable momentum of cooperation and exchanges between China and Indonesia, promoting more convenient and efficient trade and investment, and fostering cultural exchanges and mutual understanding among people.
