A 27-year-old man, Zhang Wen, last Friday committed multiple arson attacks in downtown Taipei, threw smoke bombs, and entered a shopping mall to randomly slash people, resulting in 4 deaths and 11 injuries. At around 1pm on the 23rd, prosecutors conducted an autopsy on Zhang Wen’s body to clarify the cause of death. Earlier, Zhang Wen’s parents arrived at the funeral home. Zhang’s mother lowered her hat to cover her face. The couple did not say much and quickly entered. After the autopsy was completed, Zhang Wen’s parents knelt in front of the autopsy room to apologize to the public and to the victims and their families in front of the media cameras.
According to China Times News Network, after cooperating with the judicial autopsy process, Zhang Wen’s parents faced the media cameras and stated that for the heinous crime committed by Zhang Wen, the harm caused to society, and the irreparable injury to the victims, "We’re sorry!" The couple knelt down to apologize, emphasizing that they would fully cooperate with the police and prosecutors in the investigation.
The two wore hats and masks, their voices quivering. They gave a brief apology statement and knelt, then left by car. The entire autopsy process took about two hours. The detailed cause of death will be analyzed and determined once the forensic pathology report is released. The case is still under investigation by the prosecutors and police.
