( Bandar Seri Begawan , 11th) Tan Sri Dato Tiong Thai King, Permanent Honorary President of the World Foochow Association, and his wife recently hosted a banquet to entertain guests from various Foochow associations who visited Sibu.
Guests included Dr. Lau Sii Chuan, President of the Brunei Foochow Association; Dato Chang Yong Ping, Executive Affairs Advisor; Advisor Wong Chee Yin; Secretary-General Lau Kun Cheong; Wong Zhi Ping; Hsu Xiao Bin, and others. Other attending guests included Dato Sri Lau Jiu Jian, Dr. Dato Wu Biao Sheng, among others.
Tan Sri Dato Tiong Thai King stated that this year marks the 125th anniversary of the arrival and development of the pioneering Foochow ancestors in Sibu.
Looking back at that time, the forebears braved the seas, overcame numerous hardships, cleared the wilderness, and toiled diligently on this land, putting down roots step by step, which laid the solid foundation for today’s Sibu Foochow community. These 125 years not only witnessed years of hard struggle, but also forged a spirit of resilience, unity, and mutual support.
He mentioned that during the centennial celebration 25 years ago, he would like to especially thank Dr. Lau Sii Chuan for his generous donation of RM30,000, which added color to the 100th anniversary celebrations.
