Li Wei Involved in Murder Case Overlaps with TV Drama from 20 Years Ago

44-year-old Taiwanese actor Li Wei has been out of the entertainment industry for 10 years. During this time, he ventured to China, switched careers to sell tea sets, and became devoutly Buddhist, refusing to act. Recently, however, he has been reported to be involved in a murder case at a monastery in Taipei. Unexpectedly, this case coincidentally overlaps with the theme of 'religion' and 'murder' in the TV drama 'Evil Spirit 05', which Li Wei starred in years ago, leading many netizens to express disbelief and exclaim, 'What a scary coincidence.'

Li Wei rose to fame with dramas like 'Toast Boy's Kiss', 'My Lucky Star', and 'Hi My Sweetheart', and was part of the duo WEWE with Lin Youwei. After spending years in China, he returned to Taiwan where he ran a tea set business and devoted himself to Buddhism, almost entirely cutting ties with the Taiwanese entertainment scene. However, he has recently been in the news for being involved in a murder case at a monastery in Taipei.

In a recent murder case at a monastery in Taipei's Da'an District, a woman surnamed Tsai was found dead, and 2 million NTD (approximately 270,000 MYR) missing from her bank account. This case revealed that the mastermind behind it was the well-known writer Wang Yun, and Li Wei is reportedly aware of the case and has been called in for questioning by the police twice.

Coincidentally, in 2005, Li Wei starred in Taiwan's first supernatural idol drama 'Evil Spirit 05' alongside Hong Xiaoling and TAE, a Thai actor. The drama used themes of religion, murder, and the supernatural, prompting netizens to comment, '20 years ago, Li Wei starred in 'Evil Spirit 05' which was also about religion and murder,' and 'What a terrifying coincidence.'
