Iran Still Communicating with US, Final Consensus Yet to Be Reached

Published at May 30, 2026 10:58 am
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei made a statement on the 29th saying that information exchanges between Iran and the United States are ongoing, but a final consensus has yet to be reached.

The statement said it depends on whether the US side will truly fulfill its commitments or is just putting on a show. If the US does fulfill its commitments, it would mean stopping the illegal activities that began a few weeks ago. The so-called US maritime blockade has been illegal from the start, violating the ceasefire agreement and hindering the freedom of international navigation.3D

The statement mentioned the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the management responsibilities of Iran and Oman as littoral states. "We are facing a special situation that cannot be ignored. Iran and Oman, as two responsible countries, must naturally adopt relevant mechanisms—not only to protect our own interests and security as coastal countries but also to assure the international community of the navigational safety of this maritime route. This is beyond question."

Earlier that day, Baghaei issued a statement strongly condemning the US for its threatening remarks against Oman, saying it is attempting to blackmail an independent United Nations member state.

On the 28th, US Treasury Secretary Besant warned Oman not to assist in collecting transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, otherwise it would face sanctions. US President Trump stated on the 27th that the Strait of Hormuz does not fall under anyone's jurisdiction and warned that Oman would be bombed if it does not follow the rules.
