Tony Leung Ka-Fai clinched the Best Actor award for his role in “Catching Shadows,” officially marking his historic “five-time Best Actor” achievement! Spanning from the 1980s to the 2020s, he’s had award-winning masterpieces every decade, making him a living “timeline of the film industry.” At this moment, not only fans, but even industry professionals called him a legend.

Stepping onto the stage, Tony Leung Ka-Fai maintained his steady tone, noting that this year happens to be both the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards and his 44th year in the business. “Whether you win or not, it’s an honor,” he said. But then, with a swift turn to humor, he thanked his wife: “She’s put up with me for 44 years!”—which drew laughter from the entire audience. Leung also called out the “Catching Shadows” team, from action choreography to fellow actors, who all helped to make his ruthless character more dimensional, saying, “Even my ‘adopted sons’ made it easier for me to get into character,” showing the veteran actor’s dedication to his role.

This year’s competition for Best Actor was also fierce, with Louis Koo double-nominated for “Private Detective” and “A Step into the Past,” while Zhang Jicong from “Golden Boy” and Carlos Chan from “Love Like Ours” were strong contenders. In the end, Tony Leung Ka-Fai won with overwhelming presence.
