Fung Shui-Fan’s Facebook Remains Open After Passing—Nephew Reveals Final Wish

81-year-old veteran Hong Kong actor Fung Shui-Fan rose to fame in the 1980s with films such as “The Romancing Star,” “The Best of Friends,” and “My Lucky Stars,” becoming a hit in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 1986, he moved to Linkou District, New Taipei City. On the evening of the 31st of last month, local councilor Tsai Shu-chun broke the news of his passing, and Fung’s nephew also announced his funeral arrangements through Fung Shui-Fan’s Facebook, stating that his profile will not be closed in the future.
On the 1st, Fung Shui-Fan’s nephew posted on behalf of his uncle to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes, saying they would honor Fung Shui-Fan’s wishes by holding only a private family ceremony, allowing close family and friends to accompany him on his final journey. He concluded, “Fung Shui-Fan’s Facebook will not be closed—his heart will remain with everyone.” According to friends, Fung Shui-Fan had wished for a sea burial off Kinmen during his lifetime, hoping to stand guard over the Taiwan Strait with General Hu Lien, who defended Kinmen.

Additionally, in past interviews, Fung Shui-Fan once publicly condemned renowned director Wong Jing as a ‘bastard’, claiming he ruined many people. With the sad news of Fung’s passing, Wong Jing also posted a tribute on Weibo: “Haven’t seen you in many years, and suddenly received news of your death. I am deeply saddened. Big Brother Jin [Tight], have a good journey. Your final works will not be forgotten!” Wong Jing lamented in his post, “’Ah Jin’ Fung Shui-Fan is also gone—just one day apart from Ha Yu [Hui Siu-hung]. The two of them and Ng Man-tat were the three comedy catalysts I most often cast. In recent years, nearly all have passed away. How fleeting time is.”

Wong Jing said that for a time, the two would often meet for meals, but after Fung Shui-Fan relocated to Taiwan, they seldom kept in touch. Wong also mentioned Fung’s public criticism of him: “I don’t blame him—after all, he was getting old, living alone, perhaps a little confused. Many said he had a fiery temper and liked to curse people. But I know it was his way of protecting himself; he could be a bit of a bully but shied from real threats. Once, while dining with him, some underworld types at the next table came to toast us. I calmly had a drink with them, but Fung got scared right away and insisted on paying the bill and leaving. I found it strange at the time, but later understood.”
