Thailand Attracts Over 20 Million Foreign Tourists, Generating Over 900 Billion Baht in Revenue

(Bangkok, 14th) The Thai government announced on the 14th that from January 1 to August 10 this year, Thailand received a cumulative total of more than 20.19 million foreign tourists, generating approximately 937.653 billion baht in revenue, surpassing the annual target. Despite tense relations between Thailand and Cambodia, the number of foreign visitors has continued to rise overall.

Deputy government spokesperson Sasigan Wattana Chan revealed that in the past week, boosted by the summer holidays and Japan’s long holiday, the number of visitors from all major source markets increased. Japanese tourists surged 86.33% week-on-week, rising from fifth to third place. After completing religious activities, Israeli tourists traveled to Thailand, contributing to growth from long-haul markets. The total number of inbound international tourists for this week reached 627,339, an increase of 41,529 or 7.08% from the previous week, with an average of 89,620 visitors per day.

The top five inbound markets this week are: China (102,750 arrivals), Malaysia (85,622), Japan (37,611), India (35,387), and South Korea (32,320). Among them, the numbers of Japanese, Malaysian, and Chinese tourists grew by 86.33%, 10.58%, and 5.55%, respectively, compared to the previous week.

As of August 10, cumulatively there have been 2.8359 million Chinese tourists, ranking first; followed by Malaysia (2.7857 million), India (1.4261 million), Russia (1.1441 million), and South Korea (950,700).

Sasikan stated that the government will continue to promote the development of the tourism industry and enhance the quality of services and safety standards in order to satisfy visitors and boost their confidence.
