Taiwan rock band 'Mayday' completed the final show of their 5525+2 'Back to That Day' tour at Taipei Dome on the 12th, challenging themselves with their first-ever 'double show in one day.' After a four-hour midday concert, they rested for just three hours before returning to the stage again at 7pm for the evening performance. Ashin boldly declared, 'In the Chinese-speaking world, a band like Mayday staying together for 25 years—we're probably the only one, right? No one can surpass that, right?' Right after, the legendary Hong Kong band 'Grasshopper,' who debuted 41 years ago, made a surprise appearance as special guests, thrilling the entire audience.
As the intro to 'Forget Love Samba' began, the three members of Grasshopper made a stylish entrance, joining Mayday in back-to-back performances of 'Forget Love Samba', 'Party Animal', and an a cappella rendition of 'Baby I'm Sorry.' Singing all the way to the extension stage, they instantly ignited cheers throughout the venue. Calvin Choi greeted the fans warmly: 'It's been a long time!' and sentimentally expressed deep thanks to Mayday for inviting them as guests, 'giving us this chance to meet everyone at the Dome.' Ashin immediately replied, 'The honor is ours.'
Grasshopper has been together for 41 years. Out of curiosity, Ashin asked how they managed to go the distance. Remus Choy said, 'We weren't assembled by a company; we formed ourselves. Our chemistry was built from childhood—we've known each other for 50 or 60 years. We played, studied, and worked together since we were kids, and now we've been hanging out together for more than 50 years. There’s no special secret.' Calvin Choi added that even if they bicker, they'll sleep on it and forget by morning. Ashin immediately joked, 'So the conclusion is: sleep often.' Monster jumped in, 'Use sleep to wipe away quarrels.'
Mayday also reminisced about the connection between the two groups, revealing that they briefly met backstage when performing at the 2009 Hong Kong Summer Pop Music Festival and were both part of Taipei’s New Year’s Eve concert in 2011 as the opening and closing acts, though they never officially collaborated. After many years, Mayday and Grasshopper finally shared the stage, ending with a joint performance of 'Love Line of Defense for Heartbreak,' triggering a mass singalong and bringing the concert atmosphere to an absolute climax.
