(Kuching, 22nd) Sarawak Priemier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari today inaugurated the Muara Lassa Bridge in an event held in Mukah Dalat by crossing the bridge on a motorcycle.

This bridge, with a total length of 2.43 kilometers and costing nearly 600 million ringgit, is the second longest bridge in Sarawak after the Batang Lupar Bridge, linking the mainland of Daro mainland with Pulau Bruit in the Mukah  division.

During the bridge's opening ceremony, Abang Johari stated that the bridge demonstrates the role of political stability and unity, as it enables the state government to focus on generating revenue.

He also mentioned the cancellation of the bridge project by the previous federal government in 2018 and simultaneously claimed that Sarawak does not need to depend on Putrajaya — they can cancel it if they want, but Sarawak would still accomplish it.

He remarked that besides other bridges, roads, Sarawak's own Borneo Airways and new airports, the Muara Lassa Bridge will also promote economic development in the state, creating income for the people.

Subsequently, at a press conference, Abang Johari spoke about his experience riding across the bridge, stating that the journey was "very smooth" and expressing confidence that it will become a catalyst for the development of Dalat and Bruit Island.

“Afterwards, the Rajang Bridge will be completed in March, connecting the area to Sarikei and Sibu — this means our plans to build roads and bridges have been implemented.”

The Public Works Department (JKR) stated in a press release that the bridge is a symbol of the Sarawak government's efforts to strengthen the state's coastal road network and accelerate the socio-economic development of rural residents.

The bridge construction began in 2019 and was officially opened to the public on January 9th this year.

This bridge is part of Sarawak’s coastal road project, aimed at improving land transportation for rural residents, especially those who previously relied on ferry services to cross the Batang Lassa.

Aside from providing a smoother land route for residents between Dalat and Bruit Island, it will also serve as a catalyst for economic development, improving the living standards of residents as they can now better access medical and educational facilities and job opportunities.
