
The Brunei delegation was led by the Vice Chairman of the National Security Council and Deputy Minister (Security and Legal) at the Prime Minister's Office, Datuk Sofian.
The opening ceremony of the meeting was hosted by Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Sergei Shoigu, with Russian President Vladimir Putin delivering the opening speech.
The Brunei delegation participated in the plenary session of the meeting. On the same day, Deputy Minister Datuk Sofian also delivered a speech at the ASEAN-Russia Senior Representatives Consultation on Security Affairs, jointly hosted by Russian Representative Sergei Shoigu and Myanmar Representative Major General Moe Aung.
At this meeting, Datuk Seri Sofian emphasized the importance of ASEAN-Russia relations and stated that Brunei will continue to develop long-term relationships with ASEAN dialogue partner countries, including Russia, particularly in the field of security.
On the second day, Datuk Sofian was honored to participate in a round-table discussion on information security issues, hosted by Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vereshchagin and Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Glebkov.
The Brunei delegation also held bilateral talks with Russian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Zubov.
During the talks, both countries explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in combating illegal drugs. Drug issues are one of the key focus areas in the memorandum of understanding renewed between the Brunei National Security Council and the Russian Security Council in April 2024.
