Nigeria has deported 102 foreigners convicted of cyber terrorism and internet fraud, including 50 Chinese citizens and 39 Philippine nationals.
According to AFP reports, experts have warned that foreign criminal gangs have set up bases in Nigeria, attempting to exploit the country's weak cybersecurity systems to commit crimes.
On the 21st, the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission issued a statement saying that since August 15, the Nigerian Immigration Service has cooperated with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to combat foreign-led cybercrime networks, and 102 individuals have already been deported.
In addition to Chinese nationals, a Tunisian citizen was also among them, and authorities expect more people to be repatriated in the coming days.
In December last year, authorities carried out an operation in the affluent Victoria Island area of Lagos, arresting 792 suspects, including those who have since been deported.
Among those apprehended at the time, at least 192 were foreigners, including 148 Chinese nationals.
Authorities said that foreign criminal gangs recruit Nigerian accomplices to commit online phishing scams, targeting victims mainly in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
