(Miri, 9th) The Sarawak government recently issued a legal notice, taking legal action against Petronas Carigali for allegedly operating at the Miri crude oil terminal without a license issued by the Sarawak government, demonstrating the Sarawak government's firm stance on defending its resource sovereignty, not allowing any institution to disregard local laws and override the interests of the Sarawak people.
Zhang Kangming, Propaganda Secretary of the Pujut branch of SUPP, pointed out that the Sarawak government's decisive action in accordance with the law not only reflects a firm determination to implement the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) but also reaffirms the status of the Sarawak Oil Mining Ordinance 2016 (DGO2016) as formal Sarawak law. Regrettably, the Sarawak DAP has chosen to remain silent on this matter concerning Sarawak's sovereignty and resource rights, continuing its past attitude of avoiding crucial issues on sovereignty, raising doubts about its political stance and loyalty to Sarawak.
"Petronas blatantly disregards Sarawak laws, the Sarawak government defends its rights legally, yet the Sarawak DAP remains silent. They point fingers in the Sarawak assembly, acting all righteous, but then become timid when it comes to the federal government."
He pointed out that the Sarawak DAP consistently criticizes the local government's policies beneficial to the people in Sarawak while choosing to be oblivious to the longstanding unfair treatment by the federal government. Especially during their time in the cabinet, they failed to deliver on any crucial reform promises.
Using free university education as an example, he noted that the Sarawak government has announced that starting from 2026, universities under its purview will waive tuition fees for Sarawak citizens, emphasizing the Sarawak government's commitment to its words. In contrast, the federal government and the DAP only talk without action. They have previously promised to abolish the racial quota system in university education, but federal universities still maintain this system. In contrast, higher education institutions under Sarawak have long opened admissions without racial thresholds, genuinely achieving fair competition.
"These are realities that people can see. The Sarawak government does not boast, yet it works silently; while the DAP constantly talks about progress but accomplishes nothing in the federal regime. They haven't fought for sovereignty, reclaimed resources, nor reformed systems, yet daily criticize the Sarawak government."
Zhang Kangming emphasized that the Sarawak DAP must stop its two-faced politics, not acting as "obedient children" in the federal government while playing the role of "fighters" in Sarawak. "Are you representing Sarawak, or the interests of Malaya? People need a clear explanation."
He reiterated that the SUPP and GPS government will continue to strive for the rights of Sarawak people on key issues such as sovereignty, resources, education, and development, calling on voters to recognize which party truly prioritizes the interests of Sarawak.
