Malaysian-Plate Mercedes Illegally Parked in Hat Yai; Owner Forcefully Removes Wheel Clamp and Flees

Published at May 05, 2026 12:51 pm
A luxury Mercedes sedan bearing a Malaysian license plate registered in Johor was illegally parked in a red-white no-parking zone in downtown Hat Yai, Thailand. After being clamped by law enforcement officers, the owner, apparently dissatisfied, forcefully broke off the wheel clamp device, abandoned it on the spot, and then drove away.

The damaged wheel lock key and steel cable were left at the roadside, showing clear signs of being forcefully twisted and broken.
This incident occurred at 10:30am on May 4, 2026. The Hat Yai Police Traffic Command Center received a report that at the intersection of โก้งโค้ง Road and ประชาธิปัตย์ Road (opposite Mini Big C), someone had damaged a wheel clamp device. Traffic police officers rushed to the scene to investigate and contacted the personnel responsible for wheel clamping enforcement for details.

When police arrived at the scene, they only found the damaged wheel lock key and steel cable discarded by the roadside, with evident signs of being forcefully pulled and snapped. The vehicle in question had already left before law enforcement arrived.

Preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was a black Mercedes sedan. As it was parked in a red-white no-parking area, officers had clamped the right front wheel according to regulations and attached a parking ticket to the windshield. However, the owner, possibly to evade punishment or out of dissatisfaction, forcefully damaged the wheel clamp device before quickly fleeing the scene.

At present, Hat Yai police are reviewing CCTV footage from along the route and coordinating with relevant agencies to track down the Malaysian car owner's identity to take further action. Hat Yai Police Chief Colonel Matcha Khaothong stated that the police are preparing to send a letter to the Malaysian consulate, requesting the car owner return to Thailand to cooperate with the investigation and face legal consequences. Authorities have also coordinated with the Songkhla Immigration Office to plan to blacklist the car owner.
