(Kuching, 30th) Two local men suspected of possessing 5.20 grams of suspected methamphetamine were arrested by police recently at Kampung Rampangi in Kuching. After undergoing urine tests, both were confirmed positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines.
Kuching District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu stated the two suspects, aged 36 and 39 respectively, were arrested around 3:45pm last Saturday during a raid conducted by the Kuching District Police Headquarters' Narcotics Investigation Division officers.
He said that during the search, the police seized 5.20 grams of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of about RM572.
He pointed out that investigations revealed both suspects had no prior criminal records.
He said both suspects have been remanded for two days from today until July 1 to assist the police in their investigation.
“The police are investigating the case under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, they may be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years, and given not less than three and not more than nine strokes of the cane.”
Alexson said the success of this operation was due to continuous police intelligence work and the active provision of information about drug abuse and trafficking from the public.
He emphasized that the Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with anyone involved in drug possession, trafficking or sheltering drug-related activities as these are serious criminal offenses.
He said the Narcotics Investigation Division will continue its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in order to protect the current and future generations from the harm of drugs.
He urged members of the public who have information about drug-related activities to call the national narcotics investigation hotline at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak narcotics investigation hotline at 017-592 9211 to provide tip-offs.
